The Lead Engineer leads design inputs for the project/design and translates system requirements and patient/customer needs into quality technical solutions for Imaging Workflow products. The Lead Engineer is well versed in advanced aspects of technical/functional areas and applies technical theory and practical experience with input from relevant functional areas to solve complex problems. Essential Responsibilities The Lead Engineer functions well as an individual contributor and as a team member.

Other Lead Software Engineer job responsibilities include:

* Understanding system requirements, user design specifications and user workflows

* Providing high level and detailed estimates

* Creating, documenting and reviewing detailed designs that meet requirements

* Reviewing designs and implementations with team and customer for acceptance early in the development process

* Ensuring that all designs and implementations maximize performance, availability and serviceability

* Developing and executing tests that prove that the design and implementation meet the system requirements

* Unit testing the implementation to ensure robustness and highest quality

* Providing input to Technical writers and service engineering teams for documentation and training materials

* Participating in regular project updates and project team meetings

* Utilizing rapid application development tools, methodologies and processes

Qualifications/Requirements This is open to internal & external candidates

* 4 year degree within appropriate Engineering/Science discipline or equivalent

* 4+ years of progressive professional work experience as a software engineer

* 3+ years experience with Microsoft development tools (for example, Visual Studio, Visual Basic 6) and web application development (for example, VBScript, JavaScript, ASP, HTML, DHTML

* Demonstrated experience on product releases throughout the development lifecycle with practical program/project experience on the whole development lifecycle

* Authorization to work in the US

* Willingness to travel 10% of the time

Desired Characteristics * 4+ years work experience in the Healthcare industry

* Able to communicate complex technical issues in a clear, concise manner, both orally and in written communication

* Experience with object oriented software development and associated technical standards

* Experience with relational databases

* Experience with .NET, especially C#

* Knowledge of design modeling, documentation and communication (for example, UML, IDEF)

* Knowledge of data Communication protocols and standards (for example, DICOM, HL7)

* Work experience with RIS Imaging products (IDX legacy Imagecast products and/or GE Centricity RIS products) and Healthcare Enterprise products, which integrate with RIS products

* Clinical domain knowledge to include Radiology, Cardiology, Oncology, Orthopedics and related workflows

* Familiarity with business planning processes. Demonstrated technical domain knowledge by being current on software engineering design principles, architectures and advancements in engineering concepts and technologies

* Experience in working with global teams

* Experience with source control, product build environment and analysis, and debug tools

* Direct experience with customers and software product end-users
