Under the general guidance of the Chief of Section the incumbent serves as Chief of the English Language Unit. He/She oversees the output of the Unit by providing editorial guidance to the staff, contributing to the production of news and feature content and by evaluating the programming. The Chief of Unit manages the staff by planning and discussing individual work plans and evaluating job performance. He/she closely monitors the activities of the United Nations and related bodies. He/She is also the focal point for promoting and maintaining liaison with broadcasting organizations, and obtains feedback on the use of the programmes produced. Furthermore, the incumbent keeps abreast of production developments, technological innovations and marketing techniques in the broadcast industry and ensures their successful application where relevant. The incumbent will coordinate and oversee the English language radio website and undertake travel on assignment as required.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent), in broadcast journalism/communication, international affairs and/or political science. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of professional training, and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience
Minimum of seven years progressively responsible radio experience, including research, writing, broadcasting and studio work is required. Experience producing and voicing programmes/reports in English is required. Management/supervisory experience required. Experience in international broadcasting is required. Practical experience in radio broadcast journalism with proven written and on-air presentation required; Hands-on practical experience in digital desk-top sound editing, Internet research and electronic posting experience required. Field producing experience in the target broadcast region is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of other UN official languages is an advantage.
Other Skills
Intimate understanding of target areas of broadcasts is desirable; keen awareness of trends and developments in the media markets concerned is desirable.
